   Terms and Conditions

All participants (collectively, “Participants” and each a “Participant”) of the “CUHKMC Obesity Walk 2024” and its associated activities (collectively, the “Event”) must read carefully and understand the terms and conditions of the Event set out below (these “Terms and Conditions”). “Organisers” of the Event means CUHK Medical Centre Limited, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. 

Instructions for Enrolment

  1. Once the enrolment application is submitted,  Participant is deemed to (i) have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and Conditions; and (ii) have agreed to accept all the terms set out in the confirmation email referred below, all the other rules and instructions for the Event as set out or given by, and the arrangements of the Event made by, the Organisers from time to time as well as the house rules of the Event venue (all of the foregoing in (ii) together with these Terms and Conditions are collectively referred to as the “Event Rules”), and agreed to be bound by the Event Rules. 
  2. Participants understand and agree that their participation in the Event is voluntary and at their own risk. Each Participant agrees to absolve the Organisers, the supporting organisation(s), and the sponsor(s) and their respective contractors from any and all liabilities arising from bodily injuries, illnesses, accidents, death, property damage or loss, and/or other losses suffered, arising out of, or caused by travelling to or from or while travelling to or from the Event venue, during the Event, or for whatever reason in connection with the Event.
  3. Participants should be fully aware that the Event (including the walk involved) requires physical exertion and understand the risks involved in taking part in the Event. It is the sole responsibility of each Participant to ensure that he/she is physically fit to participate in and complete the Event without any medical or other assistance. The Organisers reserve the right to disallow any Participant who is known or, in the opinion of the Organisers, appears or is suspected to be physically unfit to participate in, or continue to participate in, the Event.  The Participant concerned shall accept such decision accordingly.
  4. Participants must be 3 years old or above on the day of the Event (“Event Day”). For any Participant who is under the age of 18 at the time of submitting enrolment application, consent for participation in the Event must have been obtained from such Participant’s parent/guardian prior to submission. On the Event Day, Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adults throughout the Event. 
  5. Only on-line enrolment for the Event is accepted. The enrolment deadline is 30 September 2024. Late or on-site enrolment will not be accepted.
  6. The Organisers will issue confirmation emails to the Participants who have provided their email addresses upon enrolment on or before 14 October 2024. Participants should contact the Organisers at corpcomm@cuhkmc.hk if they do not receive such confirmation emails by 14 October 2024. 

Instructions for Participation

  1. Public liability insurance is taken out by the Organisers, but personal accident insurance is not included. Participants are advised to take out their own personal accident insurance and other relevant insurance according to their needs.
  2. On the Event Day, Participants who enter the school campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK Campus”) before the starting time of the opening ceremony (that is, 10:00 am) have to show the confirmation email to the duty personnel of the Event to confirm their eligibility to enter the campus. If Participants enter the CUHK Campus after the starting time of the opening ceremony, they have to follow the usual rule for entering the CUHK Campus, that is, by showing their original identification documents to the duty staff or security guard(s) of CUHK before entering. 
  3. After entering the CUHK Campus, Participants shall go to the meeting point to check in by presenting the confirmation emails to the duty personnel.
  4. Total distance of the walk in the Event is approximately 2 km. It will take approximately 40 – 45 minutes to complete the walk. Any Participant who feels sick during the Event should contact the duty personnel immediately for assistance.
  5. Participants must consider the safety of themselves, their companions (if any), and other Participants, and should always pay attention to the road conditions on the route. Do not lean on, climb over, or dislocate any signage, barrier, or divider placed along the route. 
  6. Participants should take care of and safeguard their own personal belongings. The Organisers are not responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings.
  7. Participants are recommended to bring drinks and food according to their needs, and to bring and use sun protection products and/or rain gear based on the weather conditions on the Event Day.
  8. Participants must not bring or use any roller skates / scooters / skateboards / shoes with wheels / trolleys / prams / pushchairs during the Event. Animals and pets are also not allowed.
  9. To ensure aviation and public safety, Participants must not use drone for video or photo-taking during the Event.
  10. All Participants should be self-disciplined and follow the instructions of the duty personnel throughout the Event to ensure his/her own safety and to avoid endangering the safety of others. Participants are prohibited from committing or attempting to commit any act in violation of the laws of the HKSAR.
  11. Participants are strictly prohibited from bringing dangerous goods (for example, glass containers, sharp objects, fireworks, compressed gas or liquid spray*, offensive weapons, flammable or explosive agents/materials, or objects which may obstruct other Participants). [*Except for medications with doctor's prescription]
  12. Participants must not wear any clothing, or bring or distribute any banners, posters, placards, leaflets, or publicity and/or displaying materials, that display or contain messages which are considered abusive, threatening, discriminatory, religious, or political.
  13. The Organisers have the right to prohibit any Participant who performs any act or displays any form of message that arouses public concern or is otherwise deemed inappropriate by the Organisers or who violates any Event Rule from joining or continuing to participate in the Event.
  14. Participants shall indemnify and/or reimburse the Organisers in respect of any property damage or loss suffered by, additional expenses or costs incurred by, and/or any claims made against, the Organisers arising from or in connection with any fault, act, or behaviour (whether wilful or otherwise) of such Participants or their participation in the Event.
  15. No smoking is allowed in the Event venue and in the course of the Event. Please keep the route and the Event venue clean and do not litter.
  16. All gifts and souvenirs distributed under the Event cannot be exchanged for cash. 
  17. If typhoon signal No. 3 or above or any rainstorm warning is still hoisted, or the “extreme conditions” as announced by Hong Kong Government is still in force, at or after 5 a.m. on the Event Day (that is, 27 October 2024), the Event will be postponed or cancelled. Announcements on the latest arrangements for the Event will be made through the Event webpage on the website of CUHK Medical Centre (“Event Webpage”) and the Facebook page of CUHK Medical Centre.
  18. The Organisers shall have the right to photograph, videotape, and/or record during the Event, and shall have the absolute discretion to use (and/or transfer to their respective contractors, the supporting organisations, and/or the sponsor(s) for using) such photographs, video recordings, sound recordings, and/or other records taken or recorded during, or any other photographs, video recordings, sound recordings, and/or other records in relation to, the Event for any lawful purposes, including, but not limited to, advertising and promotion of and/or reporting on the Event via any medium.  

General Provisions

  1. The Organisers have the right to amend or supplement these Terms and Conditions and other Event Rules at any time.  Participants are advised to check for the latest version of these Terms and Conditions and/or other Event Rules through the Event Webpage or the Facebook page of CUHK Medical Centre. 
  2. In case of any dispute, the decision of the Organisers shall be final. 
  3. In case of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of the Terms and Conditions, the English version shall prevail.


Personal Information Collection Statement

  1. The Organisers are permitted to collect, store, process, and use personal data (as defined in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486)) about the Participants as provided in the enrolment form for the “CUHKMC Obesity Walk 2024” and its associated activities (collectively, the “Event”) or as provided by the Participants or obtained by the Organisers or their respective agents during the Event or in circumstances in relation to the Event (collectively, “Participants’ Information” ) for the purposes set out below:
    1. processing of enrolment for, arrangement for, and/or the conduct of the Event; 
    2. communication with Participants in connection with the Event; 
    3. identification of the Participants in connection with the Event; 
    4. internal administrative work; and
    5. other legitimate purposes in compliance with or as permitted or required by law,

         and other purposes directly related to any of the above(collectively, “Purposes” ).

  1. Provision of personal data is voluntary. If Participants do not provide such personal data, the Organisers may not be able to enrol them for the Event.
  2. The Organisers may transfer the Participants’ Information to their respective agents, contractors, duty personnels and volunteers of the Event, and/or such other persons as required or permitted by law for the Purposes.
  3. Each Participant has the right to request access to and/or correction of his/her Participants’ Information held by the Organisers by writing to corpcomm@cuhkmc.hk . Any such data access request is subject to payment of a reasonable fee as required by the Organisers.
