Introduction
Peripheral Vascular Diseases refer to conditions that are related to blood vessels outside the heart or the brain. It can be due to blockage of blood vessels or abnormalities in the function of the blood vessels. Severe peripheral vascular disease can lead to amputation and other debilitating conditions if left untreated.
The main types of Peripheral vascular diseases are:
- Peripheral Arterial Disease: These are conditions that affects the arteries that supply blood to the legs, the arms, or other vital internal organs such as the kidney or the guts.
- Venous Thromboembolic Disease: These are conditions that cause blockage in the veins. These conditions can cause painful swelling and discoloration of the limbs.
- Pulmonary Vascular Disease: These are conditions that affect the blood vessels in the lung causing difficulty in breathing and impaired exercise tolerance.
